Rita Marie (Watson) Lamb, age 84, died peacefully on April 30, 2012, at Jackson Village, Independence, Mo.

Rita was born November 12, 1927, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Edward and Marie Watson. She grew up on Cedarcrest Farms in Independence, attended St. Mary’s School, and Mount St. Scholastica College, where she majored in Nutrition. Rita was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Mark’s Catholic Church of Independence. She was owner of Sandwich U restaurant on the historic Independence Square for 16 years. Family and friends were Rita’s passion and delight.

Rita is survived by her brother, Edward (Trina) Watson of San Diego, Calif.; four sons, T.J. (Pam) Lamb of Parkville, Mo., Michael (Maryann) Lamb of Lenexa, Kan., Dick (Sandy) Lamb of Madison, Ala., and Jim (Cheryl) Lamb of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; four daughters, Jeannie (Paul) Mitchell of Windsor, Colo., Meghan (Scott) List of Portland, Ore., Anne (Mark) Noe of Plattsburg, Mo., and Susie (Billy) Vaughn of San Antonio, Texas; 15 grandchildren, Christopher and Jason Lamb, Jonathan and Jamie Lamb, Brian Lee, Brigit Mulcahy, Brittany Lee, Carson and Siena List, Hannah and Maxwell Noe, Zachary and Nolan Lamb, Sydney and Alexandra Vaughn; 10 great-grandchildren; nephews, Michael Watson and Alan Brady; nieces, Patty Baker, Mary Pace, Rebecca Schwietz, Donna Phelps, Karen Estancy, and Lisa Matthews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Watson, and sisters, Mary Patricia Schwietz and Virginia Ann Brady. She also leaves behind many loving relatives and friends.

Rita requested her remains be donated to KU School of Medicine for research, which is a reflection of her continued selfless service to others. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her illness. Donations may be made to: KU School of Medicine Dept. of Anatomy in Kansas City, Kan., or to NorthCare Hospice House at northcarehospice.org.

A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Road, Independence, Mo.
