Frances Darlene Kessel, 92, Independence, Mo., passed away Friday, Oct. 5, 2012.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Burial to follow at Mount Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Darlene was born August 1, 1920, in Ft. Scott, Kan., the daughter of Frank Waldo and Irene (Ragsdale) Harpold. She had received her B.A. in Music Education from Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kan., and went on to teach music. Darlene served as a librarian with the Mid-Continent Libraries. She was a member of Maywood Baptist Church and taught Sunday school and children’s music. She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, and sharing the joy of music with her children and grandchildren. Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Rollie Kessel in 1992; son, Mark Kessel in 2010; and her parents.

Survivors include her daughters, Julie Kennedy, Jo Reed and Peggy Kessel; grandchildren, Matt Kennedy, Melissa Corcoran, Ashley Kennedy, Rachel Kennedy, Joseph Wichman and Katy Wichman; and sister, Elizabeth Ann Tabler.
