John L. Gerkey, 40, of Independence, Mo., passed away July 24, 2010.
Memorial service will be Thursday, July 29, 2010 at DW Newcomer’s Sons Noland Road Chapel, Independence. Visitation will be 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Services following at 2 p.m.
John was born March 23, 1970, in Kansas City, Missouri, to John and Mary Gerkey and lived in the Independence area most of his life. He was baptized in the Baptist faith. John was an artist who had the gift of drawing. Music of all kinds played a big part in his life. He also wrote poetry and was a collector of many things, especially horror movie memorabilia. You might find him in the garden with his tomato plants or fishing and hanging out with his friends and family, but most of all he loved his family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
John is preceded into death by his Father; John Gerkey Sr. Paternal Grandparents; Archie and Maxine Gerkey and Maternal Grandparents; Lenford and Dollie Miller.
John leaves behind his wife, Tina of the home. 7 Children; Zachary, Angellica and Skyla Gerkey all of Independence and Dustin Gerkey of Salem, Utah. Timothy Carroll Jr. of Kansas City, Mo and Geoffrey and Desiree Carroll both of Independence, Mo. Grandchild Chase Dwayne Gantt. Mother and Stepfather; Mary Jane and Larry Kagarice of Independence, Mo. Sister; Rachel M. Davis of Blue Springs, Mo. and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews that were close to him.
