Carrie Maxine Drake, 85, Independence, Mo., passed away Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Maxine was born April 29, 1926, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of John and Laura Bell (Zeltner) Virden. She retired from the advertising department at the Kansas City Star.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, in 2006; two sisters; one brother; and her parents. Survivors include her daughters, Kathleen L. Dowden and husband, Larkin, Jennifer Madel and husband, Bernie, and Deborah A. Hyatt; son, Thomas A. Drake and wife, Shanna; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and additional nieces, nephews and family.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Private Inurnment will be at a later date at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery; Higginsville, Mo.
