Henry H. Penniston age 91 of Independence, Mo., passed Thursday, July 2nd, 2009 at the Carmel Hills Care Center, Independence.
Henry was born to Roscoe H. and Susanna (Tucker) Penniston in Grape Grove, Mo. Henry was a WW II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from Feb. 20th, 1942 to Oct 12th, 1945. He graduated from UMKC in 1949 with a degree in Economics and History. Henry worked at Sears from 1947 until his retirement in 1980 and also was a janitor part-time for the First United Methodist Church, where he was also a member. Henry was a member of the MizPah Sunday school class, at the church. He was a member of the Sheffield Masons Lodge # 625 from 1947 until his death, he was also a member of Boy Scout Troop 3282 of Independence, and American Legion Post # 21 of Independence. Henry is preceded in death by his parents, and brother Hugh.
Henry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth L. (Cary) Penniston, whom he married on April 10th, 1949, of the home. Daughter Linda Sue Allinder and husband Jim of Lacey, Washington, son Bill Penniston and wife MaryAnn of St Joseph, Mo. Four grandchildren, Mark Allinder, Jamie Allinder, Kyle Penniston, and Kara Penniston. Also surviving is sister Jaunita Bryeans, of Blue Springs and niece Patricia Hutchins also of Blue Springs, and several cousins and family members.
Funeral Services will be Monday, July 6th, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the D. W. Newcomers Sons Noland Road Chapel, Independence. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. at the chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, Mo. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to First Methodist Church of Independence, in care of the funeral home. Arr. D.W.
