Ferne Pennington, of Independence, passed away October 9, 2012.

Ferne was born Feb. 16, 1925, to Dick and Minnie (Brammer) Brown in Oak Grove. She graduated high school from William Chrisman. Ferne worked many years as a meat wrapper; first at Milgrams and later at Thriftway. She raised three wonderful daughters on that salary. Ferne was a boisterous and brutally honest woman who made friends of many she met. She had a passion for traveling and enjoyed many bus tours and cruises with family and friends. Ferne especially enjoyed her penny slots at the casino. Her daughters will always love and remember their great defender and friend.  

Ferne is survived by her daughters, Nancy Beem and husband Galen, of Independence, Mo.; Evelyn Hubbard and husband Tom of Independence, Mo.; Patricia Swider and husband Paul, of Hughesville, Md.; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, October 15, 2012, at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E 39th Street Independence, Mo. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial at Corn Cemetery, Oak Grove, Mo.
