Glenn Tucker Lunceford, 82, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012, at The Groves in Independence, Mo., after a courageous battle with cancer.
Glenn was born July 5, 1930, in Oak Grove and lived his entire life in this area. He graduated from Oak Grove High School, then served in the U.S. Army and was a decorated veteran of the Korean War. He spent his entire career in the graphic arts and printing business, first with The Independence Examiner, then The Kansas City Star, and later with Lowell Press and Lifetouch. Glenn coached in the Queen City Baseball Association and Kiwanis Baseball League for many years. He also coached 5th and 6th grade basketball for the city recreation department. He was active in the Independence Jaycees. An avid square dancer, he was a longtime member of the Swinging Oaks Square Dance Club and the Santa Fe Trailers. Glenn was a skilled woodworker and also produced many beautiful pieces of stained glass artwork.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Glenna L. Lunceford; two sons, Mark A. Lunceford of Independence, and Jeffrey L. Lunceford of Topeka; three grandchildren, Brian, Jolee and Tyler; and one great-granddaughter, Amyla. He is also survived by his stepgranddaughter, Nicole Gregory and her sons, Colton and Clayton, of Harrisonville; a sister, Norma Borchers and her husband, Ernie, of West Virginia; a brother, Vernon Lunceford and his wife, Dorothy, of Independence; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the Hospice nursing staff, Amanda and The Groves nursing staff for providing Glenn’s care.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at Noland Road Baptist Church, 4505 S. Noland Road, Independence, Mo. The family suggests donations to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Glenn’s honor.
