Walter Edward Clark, 89, of Independence, Mo., passed away Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at Carmel Hills Healthcare Center.
He was born on March 24, 1920, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Dean and Forrest Clark. Walter worked at the Quartermaster Depot in Kansas City during W.W.II, where he met his wife, Bonnie. He later worked for Wayne Towel and Linen Supply, Merchant’s Delivery, where he was Vice President in charge of personnel for many years and McPike Wholesale Pharmaceuticals before retiring in July 1986. His favorite job after retiring was taking lunches, lunch money, band instruments, or homework to school for grandchildren who had forgotten them.
He played semi-pro baseball in the 1940s and coached Ban Johnson League teams. He was a 50-year member of both Masonic Independence Blue Lodge #76 and Ararat Shrine Temple. He was a member of the Ararat Patrol and Scottish Rite and served as Potentate’s aide under C.D. Marshall, Potentate. Walter was a member of First Christian Church in Independence.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Bonnie; a son, Mike (Barbara) Clark of Blue Springs, Mo.; a daughter, Patty Cox of Independence, Mo.; four grandchildren; Stephanie Melton, Darci Cott, Shawn Clark and Chrystal Jo Clark; and eight great-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Cooper, Jack, Jayla, Morgan, Lillyan, Henry and Samuel. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Thomas Clark.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Floral Hills Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at Floral Hills Funeral Home.
