Abraham “Abe” Nichelson, 93, of Independence, Missouri passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012 at his home with his family by his side.

Abe loved to go fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed listening to country music and attending concerts. Abe loved to be surrounded by his family including his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Abe was very proud to have served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. When Abe made a friend, he made a friend for life and the door to his home was open to all. Another passion was sharing his cabin at Truman Lake with family, friends and coworkers. Abe retired from Armco Steel as a rigger after 30 years, he was a WWII Veteran, a member of Steel Workers Union and a member of Eden Heights Church. In his youth Abe was a Kansas City Golden Gloves Champion.

Abe was preceded in death by his wife Lorene Nichelson, son Carl Nichelson and daughter Karren Scott. He is survived by three daughters Rosa Nichelson Shatswell and husband Rick of Blue Springs, Mo.; Dorothy Jenkins and husband Jim of Independence Mo.; Barbara Hubbard of Sugar Creek, Mo.; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday, July 30 from 10 a.m. to noon at Newcomer’s Noland Road Chapel. Funeral services will follow at noon on Monday at the chapel with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
