Donna Gail Halastik, 78, of Sugar Creek, Mo., passed away peacefully with her children and grandchildren at her side on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013.

She was born December 2, 1934, in Kansas City, Mo., to Otto and Lois Young. She attended William Chrisman High School. Donna and Edwin Halastik were married in 1951 and settled in Sugar Creek, Mo., to raise their family. Donna was widowed at a young age and devoted herself to raising her five children. She returned to school; became a nurse, working at Independence Regional Health Center until her retirement. She then began volunteering at Fairmount Community Center, making many friends.  Donna has been ill for the past nine years, being cared for by her children in her own home. Donna was a devoted mother, and a member of St. Cyril’s Catholic Church for over 50 years. Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Halastik; grandson, Tommy Daniel; and son-in-law, Edward Daniel.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph and Michael Halastik; three daughters, Fran Daniel (Ed), Sharron Mansfield (Mark), and Deborah Wimberly (Barry); nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack Young (Bobbie) and Dennis Young; sister-in-law, Dorothy Halastik; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., on Friday, Feb. 1, at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church. Burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in her name to Fairmount Community Center.
