O.C. “Chet” Henson Jr., 89, Independence, Mo., passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2013.
A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Stone Church Community of Christ, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence. Interment at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Outreach International, 129 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64050 or the charity of your choice.
Chet was born Oct. 15, 1923, in Mount Vernon, Ill., to Eva (Rockett) and O.C. Henson Sr. In 1942, he married Doris Jane Ehman. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, attended Graceland College and Millikin University. He was employed from 1955 to 1987 as a minister in the RLDS Church, now the Community of Christ, and served as a missionary, Regional Administrator, Stake Bishop, Stake President and Evangelist. Chet was preceded in death by brother, Alma “Bud” Henson; and sisters, Icel Robbins and Mary Lou Lusha.
He is survived by his wife of over seventy years, Doris Henson; daughters Charlotte Holbrook and husband, Carl, Andrea Henson, Karla Duke and husband, Darryl, and RoxAnn VanFleet and husband, Bill Cowden; brother, Glen Henson; sister, Cora Oldroyd; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many other extended family members.
