Pat Coulas, 83, of Independence, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013.

A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. this morning, Feb. 8, at the First Baptist Church, 500 W. Truman Road, Independence. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Mount Washington Cemetery, Independence.

Pat was born April 21, 1929, in Independence, to Joe and Evelyn (Hilliard) Powell. She married George Coulas on September 9, 1950, and together they had two children. Pat enjoyed her work in the Children’s Mercy Hospital gift shop. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church and sang in their choir. Pat enjoyed embroidery and special functions with her family including traveling. She is loved and will be missed.

Pat is survived by husband, George, of 62 years; daughter, Debby Smith and husband, Phil, of Kearney, Mo.; son, Dennis Coulas and wife, Norma, of Stilwell, Kan.; grandchildren, Jennifer and Justin Wheeler, Jacob and Jenna Smith, and Austin, Cassie, Krista and Whitney Coulas; and brother, Joe Powell and wife, Marilyn.

Contributions can be made to American Lung Association in her name, 2007 Broadway, Kansas City, MO 64108.
