Delbert T. Whaley “Boppy”, 95, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at his home.
Delbert was born on May 11, 1913 in Havelock, Nebraska to the late Thomas and Nellie (DeJarnette) Whaley. He served as a boiler man in WWII and in the Korean War. He was a member of the USS Missouri Association. He retired in 1982 from the VA Hospital as a master plumber. Delbert enjoyed meeting with the breakfast club at Hy-Vee in Blue Springs and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Clara (Broaddus) Whaley and later by Mabel (Pearson) Whaley; brother, Mayo Whaley, and daughter, Diana Marriott.
Delbert is survived by his daughter, Karen and Ronald Hilburn of Illinois; son-in-law, Oren and Judy Marriott of Independence, MO; grandchildren, Wayne and Brandy Hilburn, Tina and Shawn Docherty, Sheila and Scott Harris all of Illinois, Jamie and Jeff Williams of Blue Springs, MO with whom he lived with, Kari and Rodney Alewine of Oak Grove, MO; great-grandchildren, Dalton and Garrett Hilburn of Camden and Kai Docherty, Ryan, Cade, and Ella Harris, Andrea and Keith Piveral, whom he lived with, Hannah and Devin Alewine, Jeff and Stephanie Williams, great great-grandchild: Jayden
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, at Meyers Funeral Chapel, Blue Springs, 816-229-3276. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, at Meyers Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery at noon. Full military honors will be presented.
