Please support ISD bond issue

The Independence School District has an essential and important no tax increase bond issue on the April 4 ballot. The $38 million bond would build a new elementary school and make significant improvements at all three high schools, including improved facilities for science, technology, engineering, math, culinary, vocational and business courses (all part of the innovative and forward thinking ISD Academy program.)

Support of this no tax bond ensures our students' ability to be prepared and succeed in adulthood. As the parent of a current student and two ISD grads, I believe the improvements set forth in this bond issue will have a positive and productive impact on students and our community for years to come.

Our kids, our future! Vote yes on April 4.

Vote yes on April 4 to support local schools

I am writing in support of the no tax increase bond issue proposed by the Independence School District that is included on the April 4 ballot.

The church I serve is located near Van Horn High School. Many of the students from Van Horn and their families attend our congregation. I see firsthand on nearly a daily basis the positive impact our school district has on our young people.

I recently spoke with a young lady who will be pursuing the A+ Scholarship Program with plans to study criminal justice in college. Two brothers who were failing in another school district are on their way to college after graduation this year. They will be the first to attend college in the entire history of their family.

These are just a couple of examples of how our community benefits from the district. Strong schools build strong communities. I often have the opportunity to visit elementary schools in the Independence School District. They are bright, clean and well-staffed. They are also extremely overcrowded. The new elementary school proposed in the bond will help with this issue. The proposed upgrades to existing high schools will provide both the space and the tools necessary to assist students in a very competitive job market.

Because of the careful planning of the Independence School District, this bond issue will not require a tax increase. Approving this bond issue is the right thing to do for the future of students in our community. Please join me and vote yes.
