All of the refuse and trash services doing business within the Blue Springs city limits of Blue Springs seem to have come to the same conclusion , “it’s a done deal.”
I have lived in Independence all my life. Lately, I have watch the city continue to build and encourage businesses to move to eastern Independence. They have given tax breaks – TIFs (tax increment financing).
Throughout the health-care debate, I, along with other Republicans, repeatedly warned that this boondoggle would bury small businesses in higher taxes, new mandates and more paperwork.
I wanted to take a moment to share my sincere appreciation for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3976 in Sugar Creek, which recently put on a massive event to benefit our troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Former Mayor Ron Stewart will be remembered for his many civic efforts, including bringing new businesses and a progressive energy to Independence. He leaves an honorable legacy.

“Watch for signs of gluten intolerance” (The Examiner, Aug. 25) was one of the best newspaper articles I have read on wheat allergies and gluten intolerance, but it lacked some vital information.
In response to Robert Simpson’s letter last Friday, “The big lie goes far in politics these days.” Mr. Simpson, you keep calling our form of government a democracy, when in reality it is a representative republic. A government of, for and by the people. Sir, read the U.S. Constitution, it’s easy to find online. Just Google it.
On Aug. 20, Freddy and the Doo Wops were scheduled to perform at the Sugar Creek Concert in the Park. It was judiciously moved to Onka Hall due to a storm.
