To the editor:
After reading Jeff Quibell’s columns for the past few months, I felt compelled to respond to his most recent column on Wednesday (“City begins to see more retailers”). He said Blue Springs is becoming more and more flexible with alternative plans for current and future development. He failed to mention that we need to continue to maintain our guidelines of smart growth and quality development. This strategy started with Mayor Steiner has been carried out by Mayor Ross.
In any governmental body, with our elected officials or on our volunteer boards, there will always be debate and a difference of opinion on the future of our great city. Rather than a simple vote of yes – without asking prudent and relevant questions – our city’s elected officials and volunteer boards should debate projects that will be significant and support the betterment of our city. I appreciate their hard work and dedication to make Blue Springs the best it can be.
It also bothers me that Mr. Quibell, a former council member, past mayoral candidate and current citizen, would see fit to continuously attack our city elected officials and volunteers with his Wednesday columns. As a developer and a commissioner, I personally have had the opportunity to see both sides of the fence. I can assure Mr. Quibell, there is not one ill-conceived thought I can say about any of our elected officials and volunteers. Each brings a passion and devotion for the success of our city. I know you are very much aware that being a city official is a thankless job that takes many hours per week.
In the future I hope Mr. Quibell will use his column to highlight the accomplishments of the city instead of continually discrediting our community. Mayor Ross and our council have the city progressing in the right direction and at a pace that no one, including you, believed was ever possible!
