To the editor:
We attended the Patriotic Truman Day Award ceremony at the Truman Library Tuesday evening. It was a beautiful evening with every branch of our Armed Forces represented. Plaques of honor were presented to each of the commands that have served during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Their acceptance speeches were eloquent as they spoke, with pride, of their privilege to serve our country. God bless America!
Ike Skelton was present and gave an interesting speech, one of the best “non-political” speeches I’ve heard. It was an evening full of “American” pride as the American Legion band played and all veterans were recognized. Pastor Bob Spradling offered a prayer of benediction, which echoed our hearts’ voice of gratitude for the blessings of freedom.
Following punch and cake, we toured the beautiful library. What a treasure we have right here in Independence!
Thank you, Mayor Reimal and committee.
