To the editor:

I wanted to take a moment to share my sincere appreciation for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3976 in Sugar Creek, which recently put on a massive event to benefit our troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This was their first Hog Roast, Car and Motorcycle show followed by “Dance with a Vet” with live music by the L.C. Smith Band. The proceeds will be used to send phone cards and care packages to our troops. This is just one simple way of letting them know the people back home are proud of their service and that we understand the sacrifices they are making. So, for all those who came out to support the event in their honor, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

For those who “did not support” this event, you missed out on great food and music, as well as amazing cars and motorcycles, but most of all you missed out on showing our troops you care. It was such a small price to pay to show your support. It is disappointing that more of the local community did not show its support for what this VFW post was trying to do. What happened to American pride?

My son was in the military, and he is a member of VFW Post 3976. I am proud of his service to our county, but most of all I am proud he is my son.

The next time there is an event honoring our military past, present or future, I ask you to heed the call to action to support our troops. Show your American pride, and give back. It is such a small price to pay for freedom.
