Letter to the editor

To the editor:
I found Don Russell’s letter printed in the June 22 Examiner (“Obama lies and gullible believe him”) a bit odd.

Nowhere did he suggest even the slightest hint of the “misrepresentations” made by President Obama. All he does is use extreme language that is meant to create heightened emotions and negative feelings instead of making real, factually credible statements, laying his case out logically and responsibly.

Place blame where it is due: on Congress. It is the only place authorized to make law. I suspect that most Americans are frustrated by the inability of the Congress to do their work on behalf of the people. Creating a free society and its government is hard work and, at its best, requires compromise and cooperation, not rigidity and political demagoguery. Congress is a reflection of our society and I suspect that is why, emulating Mr. Russell’s say-nothingness and hate mongering rhetoric, it will continue to be unresponsive in doing the right thing for all Americans.

Instead of expecting those leaders we disagree with to be “evil” as Russell hints at by using Matthew 5:39, let’s turn the tables on this libelous innuendo by doing the following instead, “Love one another,” John 15:12. Praying for our leaders won’t hurt either.
