To the editor:
History in one country has a way of repeating itself in another country. Hitler was successful convincing people Sunday would be a good day to have sporting events and plenty of opportunities for shopping. Our country has adopted his way of thinking. This country has many more people in shopping centers and other places of business than in churches on Sunday. How sad this is! Churches today are having difficulties existing because of the influence of the world.
Something else that caught the attention of many Christians was the announcement by the president and vice president recently approving same-sex marriages. Usually, when we think of same-sex marriages we think of Sodom and Gomorrah. We know what happened to these two cities. This story is told in the Old Testament, but it would be well for all to hear what St. Paul wrote to the Christians in Rome. Here is what he wrote starting with Romans 1:26:
“Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the penalty for their perversion. Furthermore, since they did not think it worthy to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful. They invent ways of doing evil, they disobey their parents, they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of them who practice them.”
It is apparent that God is very unhappy with this country. The weather people like us to believe that tornadoes, floods, hail storms and earthquakes are a result of Mother Nature at work. I would like to know where her throne is. There is only one in charge of this earth and universe, and that is God.
