Many in society have lost their way

To the editor:

I suppose other people, as they grow older, experience the same bewilderment, disgust and confusion as I by the present-day happenings around them. I see a society that has lost touch with religion, moral values and seems to act upon emotion, impulse or mob mentality.

It seems we are in an age of denial, blame, unaccountability and, devoid of the ability to distinguish right from wrong. It seems we no longer find work the way to succeed, but instead we expect freebies (entitlements) from the taxpayers. We teach that envy, greed, lies and slander are acceptable, and sometimes necessary, to gain personal and political ends.

Why does everyone have to succeed, and why can no one be allowed to fail? I suppose if I live long enough I may see every contest awarding two first-place prizes.

Why do we so viciously attack those who disagree on abortion and free abortificants, while ignoring the women in Egypt that fear leaving their homes along because they could be raped on the streets? Where is the outcry about them? The silence is hypocritical.

Less than two months ago, the liberals alleged conservatives were waging war on women. Where are they now on this war? Why is it that we only occasionally hear whimpers from our churches’ voices on this? Are they not champions of justice, compassion and charity? Where are they now?

And lest I forget, why does everything have to be designer, lite or sexy? Why do we trade reality for entertainment? How can the people of this country be so ignorant and unconcerned about world affairs and the future of our country and, yet they know more about recreational drugs, booze, hip-hoppers and jocks than the detriment of debt, both private and federal?

I wonder!
