To the editor:
Observe the gun discussions. What is the fuel? It is not freedom or safety. It is not reason or rights. It is fear.
Observe the certainty and emotion with which people are viewing self and others. That is fear. Instead of fear, we can choose peace. Instead of fear, we can role-model dignity. If we chose to see those with different views as fools, we choose failure.
Advocate your views, but do so with strength and dignity. Let your words, tone of voice, body language and facial expressions reveal peace.
For those too frail to refrain from emotionalism, give them compassion. We must comfort the weak.
Perfect love casts out fear. Step back and look. Step in and love.
