To the editor:
I felt that it is my duty as a women to inform other women about my experience with a checkup with my doctor. I have never ever had this happen before.
I have BCBS, which is a high-deductible plan, $5,000. No copay. I am in my mid-40s, self-employed and work retail, so I needed a plan I could afford. I would always put off my annual exams because of the cost. Well, I got a surprise with this recent visit.
The office visit, which is $209, and with my member savings is $73.97, which left $135.03, which is typical. But I did not have to pay the $135.03. It was covered under this new health-care initiative. I owe zero for my office visit. Also, my mammogram, which would normally be $179 – I owe zero. My blood panel that checks the whole CBC was $444.48 with member savings $42.62, which left $401.86 – this is typical. But, with the new health-care initiative the discount was $355.06, which left me owing $46.80. I cannot believe that I only owe $46.80 for a complete annual check up with my insurance plan. I am relieved.
So, with the figures listed here I saved $715.89. I wanted to let women know that if there in need of an annual exam check with your insurance company.
