To the editor:
I view the ignorant and offensive remarks about women made by Todd Akin as just another misogynist.
What I don’t understand is his campaign to end federally funded school breakfast and lunch programs. Actor Jeff Bridges is the spokesperson for “No Kid Hungry.” This organization says a child who is distracted, is often sick or struggles to learn could be one of the millions of hungry kids in America.
As a former county school board chairperson, I have firsthand experience with the success and importance of these programs. We, as a nation, have a moral obligation to end childhood hunger. While I do not condone Akin’s personal “War on Women,” I absolutely do not understand his “War on Children.”
I hope the good people of Missouri think long and hard before sending someone like Akin to the United States Senate.
