To the editor:
In school I’ve noticed in some of my classrooms they don’t display an American flag. This frustrates me because when I say the Pledge of Allegiance every Monday morning in my first-hour class, I don’t have a flag to pledge to. I believe all public schools in Missouri should be made to put flags in all classrooms.
Every student has a right to see the American flag in their classroom and feel patriotic. Furthermore, it is only logical to say the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag instead of a wall like I do. Seeing the American flag in the classroom makes the students think of their loyalty to our country instead of just repeating the pledge without thinking about what the flag means.
We live in America, and the teachers should teach what the flag means to our country. Another counter-argument may say schools don’t have money to afford flags. One solution might be that the new tax on tobacco products could be used to pay for American flags in the classrooms.
Doesn’t everyone in America want the children to be proud of their heritage?
