To the editor:
I have just returned from Indianapolis, where I watched the Blue Springs High School Golden Regiment Marching Band participate in the Bands of America Grand National Championships.
During dinner one evening my father and I overheard a gentleman at the next table lament about kids “not caring anymore about anything.” I was struck by how this obviously conflicted with what we witnessed in Indianapolis. The Golden Regiment band members practiced since July with effort that would put many adults to shame, all leading up to a magnificent performance on a national stage in Lucas Oil Stadium.
Dr. Tim Allshouse, band director, and his staff should be proud of another year of helping to instill in the members of the Golden Regiment the ethic of working hard to achieve something great. I appreciate the value Dr. Kinder, the school board, and the Blue Springs School District places in this worthwhile program. Music truly does teach valuable lessons that can be carried forward throughout life.
