Cleaver on wrong side of health reform debate

I am writing in regards to the Nov. 11 letter from Tina Miller.

In this letter Mrs. Miller thanks Congressman Cleaver for showing courage in voting with the majority in Congress.

I would like to point out that Rep. Cleaver not only did not show courage in his vote for the health care bill on Saturday, he has not in my opinion ever shown courage in any of his votes on major legislation.

Congressman Cleaver has voted for every wrongheaded, foolhardy bill put before the House since he has been there. He voted for the bail out, the hate speech, Cap & Trade, Health Care with a public option included, and that means a slippery slope to socialized medicine.

Mrs. Miller you said your husband is on Medicare, I am also. The bill passed in the House on Saturday night is to be paid for through Medicare cuts.

I will say this again and again until everyone reads and understands that the U. S. Constitution is the supreme law of the United States and it says in Article one section 8 what the Congress can do and what their responsibilities are, and there is nowhere that they are to demand that the citizens have to do anything like buy an insurance policy, nor does it allow Congress to get involved in any of our personal, private business.

Article 10 says that anything not specifically stated in the first nine articles (Amendments) is remanded to the states or the people.

This bill that Cleaver voted for is almost 2,000 pages long and I doubt very seriously that he read the bill.

So don’t be so free in praising Congressman Cleaver, he never listens to the majority of his constituents, he votes with Pelosi, Frank and has always voted for whatever Obama supports. He even said, and I quote, “He (Obama) is more popular than Jesus. I didn’t necessarily agree with the bill, but it’s hard to vote against him.”

Now that quote had to do with some other bill, but Cleaver is supposed to be our representative not the president’s.

I am not surprised that some are joyful with the health care bill since the insurance companies, and the lawsuits for millions of dollars have driven our health costs through the roof, I think we need reform, but I think it would be better regulated at the state level, especially since that’s where the Constitution puts the power over this issue.
