It is beyond heartwarming to see the community’s reaction to the call by the Independence School District for the “Extreme Makeover” this coming weekend.
The district is taking on a huge job, getting six school buildings transfered from the Kansas City School District ready for classes, which start Aug. 18.
What’s the work? Maybe a sampling of the supply list on the district’s Web site gives a clue: 100 shovels, 400 hoses, 50 mops and 50 brooms, 250 boxes of heavy-duty, 55-gallon trash bags. It’s a substantial list.
And volunteers are needed too. Many groups and individuals have responded and signed up to make these buildings safer, friendlier, healthier places for our kids. The work is being done Saturday and Sunday. There’s still time to join in the effort.
