Blue Springs, MO —

This is getting to be fun.

The David Cook story has captured the imagination of people in Blue Springs and beyond. His amazing success so far on “American Idol” has attracted throngs of fans, and there’s every reason to think he’ll keep advancing on the show.

The Blue Springs South High School graduate sailed into the show’s final three this week, and today his hometown and all of Kansas City welcome him home for a day of celebration before he plunges back into the competition. There will be TV and radio appearances, an event in the Power & Light District, then a parade on Adams Dairy Parkway and an another appearance – tickets are long gone – at his old high school. He’ll get the key to the city in his hometown and other honors. Later, he’s throwing out the first pitch and singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” at the Royals game.

Cook has lived in a few different places, but it’s nice that he still calls Blue Springs home. He’s given the community something fun to rally around. The whole city is rooting for his as he reaches for the stars.
