So let’s scan the ol’ TV listings tonight.
Hmm, one movie channel has a 24-year-old Chuck Norris movie, the History Channel offers up “Mega Disasters,” and “Law & Order” is always airing somewhere. The Royals are on. So are hockey and basketball playoffs. And there are more talking heads than any healthy society needs.
Wait a minute.
We’re guessing that at 7 tonight a whole lot of televisions will pass on all that and will instead be tuned to “American Idol,” where Blue Springs native and local pop phenom David Cook will try to sing his way to the show’s final two. Good luck, David.
Before the curtain drops tonight, let’s take a minute to celebrate another success. Last Friday, David Cook Day was an enormous success, highlighted by 10,000 people coming out for a brief concert at Blue Springs South High School. Other events included a parade in Blue Springs, a mini-concert in the Power & Light District and an appearance at the Royals game.
This came together fairly quickly, and it took a lot of work. Just for the Blue Springs end of things, the Chamber of Commerce, the Blue Springs School District, City Hall and the police deserve kudos for planning and performance. Well done.
David Cook keeps advancing on “Idol” in part because he makes it look easy. Ditto for local organizers.
