To the editor:

On Dec. 4, the U.S. Senate vote on disabilities has to go down as one of the real and most despicable shames in American history. With World War II, permanently injured veteran and former Senate leader Bob Dole, 89, sitting in a wheel chair on the Senate floor with his wife sitting next to him and with Vietnam War veterans arguing for the passage of this bill, Senate Republicans, led by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Chuck Grassley and Orin Hatch, all voted against the disabilities act, thus causing its failure.

This is a true embarrassment to all of our armed services personnel who have fought bravely for this country and then came home with permanent injuries, such as the loss of arms, legs and traumatic brain injuries. These kind of people (the current Republican leaders) are not leaders in our government, they are an embarrassment to our government and especially to our permanently injured veterans who have fought to preserve the freedoms these jerks get to enjoy.
