To the editor:
I am an 11-year breast cancer survivor. I became acquainted with the wonderful work of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization through the Center for Breast Care at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City. Over the years, I witnessed their efforts benefit many people.
Recently, however, with great sadness, I discovered that Komen donates large amounts of money to Planned Parenthood, the single largest provider of abortions in our country, a procedure that takes the life of one little child at a time, thousands of times a day, victimizing both mother and child. In addition, it has been well documented that women who have had an abortion are at much higher risk of developing breast cancer later in life.
For Susan G. Komen to support an organization that performs a procedure that destroys life and may contribute to the very disease it purports to fight against is untenable.
I was encouraged when I read that Susan G. Komen was withdrawing funds from Planned Parenthood but then the next day was in disbelief when I read that Komen bowed to the political pressures of Washington and various pro-abortion groups to include them once again. Because of Susan G. Komen’s direct support of Planned Parenthood, regrettably, I can no longer support or donate to this organization and encourage your readers to do likewise.
I am still praying for the day when unborn children might safely thrive through all nine months of pregnancy and birth, and organizations like Susan G. Komen dare to withstand a firestorm of criticism in order to do the right thing simply because it is the right thing to do.
