To the editor:
In talking to other personal at the YMCA recently, some said if we would have had a meeting beforehand with the Y board, explaining the financial problems with maintaining an older facility, they would have been glad to pay $5 or even $10 more a month to keep it open. Five dollars times 900 members would bring in $4,500 a month; $10 would bring in $9,000 a month.
It is not too late to still do this. Please call a meeting and give members an opportunity to help you. It would also solve the problem of bad publicity over the closings, just when you are trying to raise $30 million for a new downtown Y, and help the many dedicated employees keep their jobs, saving you the problem of laying them off.
