AUG. 9-24: Bass Pro Shops Fall Hunting Classic – A 17-day event featuring seminars and classes that focuses on hunting and the outdoors. Remaining activities include: Share the Harvest, Aug. 22-24; Women In the Outdoors Event, Aug. 22-23; Chainsaw Carving Demonstrations, Aug. 23-24; Antler Dogs, Aug. 23-24. AUG. 23: Missouri Department of Conservation Hunter Education Class – 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Lone Jack Primary Education Building. Students must be age 11 or older. Andy Gerrard is the instructor. Pre-register by calling 816-655-6250.
AUG. 23-24: Creek Cruisin’ – 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday or 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday for families with children ages 4 and older at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs. Bring a towel and a change of clothes; you will need them after this wet wade through a creek. Dip nets and seine for local fauna and then go exploring through the Burr Oak Creek. Bring a lunch for a picnic afterward under the pavilion (Sunday, come early and bring a lunch for a picnic before the program under the pavilion). Meet at the Bethany Falls pavilion. AUG. 28: Discover Nature Women: Summer Harvest – 6-8 p.m. for women age 18 and older at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs. Women’s-only program to learn new skills and discover nature. Learn to identify native wildflowers and trees and explore the gardens around the Nature Center and the flora of the Tree Trail. Enjoy some pre-prepared samples of true natural snacks. Sunscreen and bug spray recommended. Dress for the weather. Call 816-228-3766 to register.
AUG. 30: Tree Indentification – 10-11:30 a.m. for familes with children ages 3-5 at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs. Join naturalist Justin Whitman to learn about Missouri’s native tree species. Includes a short hike in search of different trees. For identification purposes, bark and tree rubbings will be available for participants to keep. Dress for the weather. Call 816-228-3766 to register.
AUG. 31: Discover Nature Families: Fishin’ Hole – 10-11:30 a.m. for familes with children ages 9-11 at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs. Learn about fishing and learn the native fish of Missouri. Discover Nature Families programs are designed to help adults and children explore nature and master outdoor skills together. Please dress for the weather and wear bug spray. Adults participating (ages 16 – 64) are required to have a valid fishing license. Call 816-228-3766 to register.

SEPT. 9, 10 & 11: Missouri Department of Conservation Hunter Education Class – 6-9:30 p.m. each day at George Owens Nature Center in Independence. Dan Laitner is the instructor. Students must be age 11 or older. Pre-register by calling 816-325-7370. Students must attend all three sessions to qualify.
SEPT. 13: Missouri Department of Conservation Hunter Education Class – 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Bass Pro Shops in Independence. Mike Mansell is the instructor. Students must be age 11 or older. Pre-register by calling 816-655-6250.
SEPT. 13: Missouri Department of Conservation Hunter Education Class – 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Longview Community College in Lee’s Summit. There is a $2 building use fee per student.
