Hi, my name is Joy. I used to be an Animals Best Friends dog, but I found a forever home of my own. I am getting ready for the colossal garage sale that is coming up this weekend to benefit Animals Best Friends. I’ve been practicing rummaging through my Mom’s stuff so I can compete with all the professional “garage-salers.”
This really is a huge deal! The volunteers will arrive at the ABF rescue facility at 2302 S. Crysler Ave. in Independence bright and early on Thursday to receive donations for our garage sale. They will be there from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. to receive donations, write receipts, and mark and pack items. Jerry Meinert, (AKA Mr. Pack and Stack) is the foreman of this operation. He makes sure everyone carefully wraps items and packs them for transport to the Armory so the delicate things won’t break. These volunteers have been known to work late into the night just to get everything ready.
After another day’s work of setting up the sale, the doors of the National Guard Armory, 2323 S. Crysler Ave., Independence, will finally open at 9 a.m. on Saturday. ABF volunteers will be on hand to assist shoppers with their treasures. There will be a variety of items on sale, so there should be something for everyone. (I do hope I can find that squeaky toy I’ve been looking for!) Volunteers will also be selling our “Save a Life Adopt a Shelter Pet” paw print tee shirts for $8 each. There will be a donation barrel at the sale if you would like to bring something from the ABF wish list to donate to the animals. The sale will end at 4 p.m.
So please donate your unwanted items on Thursday and then come to the sale on Saturday to search for new treasures. We usually have toys, dishes, books, Christmas decorations, frames, furniture, curtains, mirrors, candles, and other various items.
All proceeds will go to Animals Best Friends. My homeless ABF brothers and sisters thank you for your support.
Animals Best Friends wish list includes dog chow, dog biscuits, rawhides, cow hooves, canned dog and cat food, laundry soap, bleach, Fantastic cleaning spray, paper towels and newspapers. There is a paper recycling bin in the parking lot at ABF Headquarters, 2302 S. Crysler Ave., Independence. Please, no cardboard or telephone books. We appreciate your support.
