Klondike Derby 2013

Klondike is an annual event that Boy Scouts participate in a winter skills competition. Over 650 Scouts and adult leaders in 32 troops entering 67 sled teams competed in a variety of events on this unseasonably warm Saturday at the American Legion Farm in Blue Springs.
Archery, target shooting, compass reading, cooking, knots, lashings, wood cutting, fire building, first aid, outdoor survival, sled race, and a ”Ravine Crossing” with their sled were some of the activities in the competition. Each team pulled a sled and won gold nuggets based on their performance.
Klondike is part of the Blue Elk District year round camping program and emphasizes Scouting skills, teamwork, and the Scout Motto “Be Prepared.”
