Blue Springs, MO —

Leslie Evans, director of information and public relations for the Blue Springs School District

1 What is your favorite improvement to the Central Office facility?

Our Professional Learning Community Center is definitely my favorite. This facility has been designed for delivery of instruction and training for our staff. It has so many uses and options that I think the potential impact for staff development is unlimited.

2 With David Cook’s success on “American Idol,” what is it like to start getting calls from national media about the Blue Springs native?

It is a wonderful and exciting time for the Blue Springs School District and also very busy. We know that our incredible community and exemplary schools are only a small part of what prepared him for his success and that it takes much more than that to go as far as he has, but we are very proud of him, and every educator in our district felt the honor as David gave credit to his elementary music teacher. It reminds us all what a lasting impact we can have on our students.

3 What is the school district’s reaction to Cook’s success?

We are all so thrilled to see one of our graduates do so well. He was a great student, and our staff is so pleased to have him represent us. We really have outstanding young people that graduate each year from our schools, and we love seeing them become successful adults. And I would be remiss if I did not add “Vote for David Cook,” we know we will.

4 With the end of the school year approaching, what are your summer plans?

We are always planning for the next year. Summer is a great time for us to prepare for the coming school year and do our best to inform our community about our district.

5 What can parents do over the summer to help their children be ready for school in August?

It is important to keep your children active and involved in learning activities over the summer months. We offer great summer school programs across our district, and these are just one way you can make sure students are engaged and learning.
