Independence, MO —

Kyle Mitchell, an Independence native, began racing motorcycles at the age of 5. Since then he has received numerous trophies and a serious injury that knocked him out for three years. He is trying to make a comeback now. His most memorable trophy was awarded at the age of 15 for third place in the Midwest Spring Series in the Schoolboy Class.

1 How long have you been racing?
I got my first motorcycle when I was 4, started racing when I was 5, and have ever since.

2 Where do you typically race?
All over the country, but locally in Grain Valley and Kingsville.

3 How often do you race?
In high school I raced every weekend, but stopped due to a horrible injury.

4 What injury and how did it happen?
I was training to run the American Motorcross Association Supermoto Series, was riding back to my shop and was hit head on by a truck. Those injuries knocked me out for three years.

5 What made you decide to race again after your injury?
The love of the sport. It’s a fun atmosphere and a way to relieve stress. I also work with motorcycles every day and began to miss it.
