Lutheran leader
plans local visit
New Hope Lutheran Church will have the Rev. Bill Sullivan, president of Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ, from Canton, Mich., sharing what’s happening within the LCMC at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church, 14500 E. 39th St., Independence. First Christian turkey
dinner helps youth
The First Christian Church of Blue Springs will hold its annual turkey dinner fundraiser from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the church, 701 N.W. 15th St.
Turkey and all the trimmings, plus a drink and dessert are included in this home-cooked meal. The cost is $7 for adults, $4 for children 5 to 11 years, and ages 4 and under eat free.
Proceeds will help support the children’s middle school and youth programs. For more information, call the church at 816-229-8400.

Holiday auction set
at St. John LaLande
St. John LaLande Catholic School & Parish will host its annual “Christmas Holiday Auction 2009” on Saturday. The auction will be held in the school gym at  801 N.W. R.D. Mize Road, Blue Springs.
The auction features a live and silent auction, raffles and special drawings all evening long. Silent auction preview bidding will begin at 4:30 p.m. Dinner, hosted by Carrabba’s Italian Grill, will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Parish Center.
The live auction will begin promptly at 8:45 p.m. Auction items include KU/MU Basketball tickets at Columbia, a Notre Dame football weekend, a trip to Chicago’s American Girl store, an aerobatic airplane flight for one and much more.
All proceeds from the auction benefit educational ministries of the St. John LaLande School. Admission to the auction is  free. Dinner tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, and are available for purchase in the Parish Office on weekdays and after all weekend Masses preceding the event. Cash bar available. St. Joseph the Worker
plans annual craft fair
St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church is having its 11th annual Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the church, 2200 N. Blue Mills Road, Independence.
You’ll be able to do all of your Christmas shopping in one stop from the more than 22 crafters. There will also be free hourly raffles

‘Woman’s Day of Hope’
at Timothy Lutheran
Timothy Lutheran Ministries of Blue Springs will host “A Woman’s Day of Hope” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at its new second site, 301 S.W. Wyatt Road, Blue Springs.
The day will include inspirational speakers, dramas and music.
The cost is $15 per person, which includes lunch and child care for the first 20 registered children ages 0-5. Blue Springs Assembly
plans salute to veterans
Blue Springs Assembly will host “Veterans Celebration Sunday” at 10 a.m. Sunday at the church, 2501 N.E. Duncan Road. This event features speaker and war veteran Zollie Smith and Blue Springs Mayor Carson Ross.
From his tour of duty in Vietnam, Smith holds a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. As a civilian, he later served his country as a police officer and detective. Before his election as mayor of Blue Springs, Ross served in Vietnam. As a citizen, he served 14 years in the Missouri House of Representatives.
Veterans and their families may personally greet these featured speakers at the guest reception following the celebration in the Youth Center.
To see your vet featured in the commemorative video, simply complete a “Veteran History Card,” attach a military photo, and return to the church by Sunday. History cards, photos, and reception reservations may be accessed online at bluespringsassembly.org.

Church on the Rock
plans food distribution
The Church on the Rock Outreach Center in Lee’s Summit have several activities planned for November.
A Love’s Outreach Community Food Distribution will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 14. There will be free food for families in need, with no qualifying.
A free Thanksgiving dinner food box for families in need will be distributed at the 9 and 10:30 a.m. worship services Nov. 22. Attendance during one of the services is necessary to pick up a dinner food box. Reservations are required by Nov. 15.
A Thanksgiving eve service will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 25. Join us for an evening of giving thanks.
