‘God’s Love’ the theme at the Stone Church

Denise Jensen will speak on the theme of “Nothing Separates Us from God's Love” at the 10:20 a.m. worship service this Sunday at the Stone Church Community of Christ, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence.

Jensen is a counselor to the pastor and regional vice president of Resource Development for the American Lung Association of the Central States, serving a five state area. Carol Anway will preside, while John Davies, Lee Barnes and Paulette Votava Resch will provide ministry of music.  Other participating will be Linda Keller, Hank Volskay and John Chapman.

Steve Jones, the presiding Bishop of the Community of Christ, will be the Summer Series speaker at 6:45 p.m. Sunday on the theme of “Stewardship of God's Generosity” at the Stone Church. The Voice of the Past will be G. Leslie DeLapp, and the congregations honored will be Enoch Hill (1914) and Englewood (1914), which is now known as Celebration and Special Ministries.

Jones, a minister for Community of Christ, was ordained as the presiding Bishop, leader of the highest financial council of the church, in March 2007. Prior to this assignment, he had served as a counselor to the presiding bishop since April 1998. He previously served as the director of Human Resource Ministries at the church’s international headquarters. Before accepting World Church appointment, he worked as chief operating officer of the North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City, Iowa, for 10 years. In 1976, he served as part of a World Church health team in Haiti.
