The Kansas City Comets added three more – one a familiar face – to their 2016-17 roster.
The Comets announced the signing of veteran defender John Sosa, former MISL Rookie of the Year Odaine Sinclair and goalkeeper Brendan Allen Monday afternoon.
Sosa starts his sixth season with the Comets. After playing midfield his rookie season, he transitioned to defense, becoming one of the league’s top players.
He tied for third on the team last season with 28 points (nine goals, 19 assists). He added two goals and four assists in the playoffs. He was among the team’s top five point-scorers in each of the last four seasons.
Sosa was a crucial piece of the 2014 MISL championship squad, playing all 20 regular season games and contributing 46 points. He added another goal and assist in the playoffs.
“I’m looking forward to the new challenge with a new coach and new season,” Sosa said, “but I’m really excited to continue playing in front of the league’s greatest fans.”
Sinclair, who was named the MISL Rookie of the Year in 2014, comes to the Comets from the St. Louis Ambush. A standout forward in the MISL’s 2014 rookie combine, Sinclair was highly sought after before landing with the Ambush.
He appeared in all but two games for the Ambush over the last three seasons with 36 goals and 38 assists.
Allen, a Park Hill South High School graduate, rejoins the Comets after being with the team during the 2014 MISL championship season. He will serve as a backup to starting goalkeeper Boris Pardo.
The Comets roster currently stands at 14 veteran players and the team expects to announce the remainder of the roster in the coming days. The season opener is Oct. 29 against the Cedar Rapids Rampage at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
