Nina Stine showed exactly why she was a first-team all-state selection last season.

She scored Blue Springs South’s first five goals in the Jaguars’ 9-2 first-round win over Harrisonville Saturday in the first round of the Platte County Invitational.

The Jaguars will play Grain Valley in the semifinals at 7 p.m. today.

South had 25 shots on goal total. Kaylee Connors added two goals, Hannah Maupin had one and Bailey Brennan added one. Mallory Kroencke paced the team with three assists.

“Only returning five varsity starters from last year's team,” South coach Todd Findley said. “We were anxious and excited to get started and see where we stand. It was a very good initial performance and great to see the team jell on the field.”

GRAIN VALLEY 2, PLATTE COUNTY 0: In a rematch of last year’s Class 3 sectional game, the Eagles outlasted the Pirates in the first round of the Platte County Invitational.

Rylan Childers scored a goal off an assist from Marissa Schmitt and Haley Hunter scored off Julie Azcona’s assists. Raegan Beeding had four saves and got a shutout in goal.

FORT OSAGE 8, RAYTOWN SOUTH 0: Fort Osage started off its season the right way with a drubbing of the Cardinals Monday.

Megan Lyon and Karlee Tatum led the team with two goals each. Also scoring were Mia Phillips, Hayley Jones, Kelsi Schaberg and Elisah Miller. McKenzie Lyon and Amber Lee combined for a shutout in goal.

Fort’s JV team won 10-0.

WILLIAM CHRISMAN 1, RAYTOWN 0: The Bears picked up an early non-conference victory with a win over the Blue Jays Monday.

Rylee LaRoche scored the team's lone goal off an assist from Cassie Simpson.
