The Grain Valley girls soccer team overcame an early 2-0 deficit to rebound for a Missouri River Valley Conference West win over Pleasant Hill Tuesday,

The Chicks went up 2-0 after a goal in the 46th minute, but Grain Valley freshman Avery Brady countered with two goals to tie it before Rylan Childers scored a goal in the 70th minute to give the Eagles (9-3, 4-0) the lead for good. Marrissa Schmitt also scored in the 75th minute.

Schmitt added two assists, Childers and Maddie Knust each had one.

“Great result for us tonight against a very good team,” Grain Valley coach Tyler Nichol said. “Impressive second half to come from two goals down. We felt that if we could just finally put one goal away then we could swing the momentum and go get more, and that's exactly what happened. We're going to have to better defensively against them next time if we're going to win conference. Overall though, great resolve and a big win.”

BARSTOW 2, VAN HORN 0: The Falcons fell to 7-7 on the season after a loss to Barstow Tuesday.

ST. TERESA’S ACADEMY 2, LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 0: The Broncos couldn’t get any offense going in a loss to state powerhouse St. Teresa’s Academy Tuesday.

“We wanted to come out and get back at the team that knocked us out in Sectionals the past two years, but we came up short,” said North coach Ryan Kelley, whose team fell to 7-3. “Through the first half we did a good job of getting behind their back line and getting to the box. We struggled with the final pass or touch and could not really threaten the goal. We had a couple shots that the Stars goalkeeper was easily able to collect.”

Both of the Stars’ goals came in the second half.
