The Blue Springs baseball team erupted for five runs in the fifth inning to snap a 1-1 tie and claim a 6-2 victory over Olathe (Kan.) Northwest in the River City Festival Thursday at Lawrence (Kan.) Free State High School
Blue Springs starter Ryan McMahan allowed just four hits and one run over five innings for the victory.
“Ryan did a great job,” Wildcats coach Tim McElligott said. “He did a great job pitching to contact and letting our defense do the work. We had timely hits in the five-run fifth. Good win against a 7-2 Olathe team.”
Garrett McGowan doubled and singled with two RBIs, Chris Liggett had an RBI triple and scored two runs and Logan MacKay and Jake Lufft each added two hits and an RBI to lead Blue Springs (10-7) at the plate.
The Wildcats meet Shawnee Mission (Kan.) East at 9 a.m. Saturday at the University of Kansas in the final game of the showcase.
LEE’S SUMMIT 11, TRUMAN 4: Truman couldn’t recover after falling behind 9-0 after two innings in a loss to Lee’s Summit in its finale in the Eastern Jackson County Tournament Thursday at Legacy Park.
The Tigers scored four runs in the first inning and five in the second to put the Patriots away early.
Kyler Barnett was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Mason Steele went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Josh Patrick added two hits to lead Truman (3-13).
Drew Hill was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and winning pitcher Ben Lock and Quinton Carlberg each added two hits and two RBIs for Lee’s Summit.
