JOPLIN, Mo. – Blue Springs South senior Ethan Wegner made a big move up in the final round of the Class 4 Missouri State High School Boys Golf Championship.
Wegner shaved 11 strokes off his first-round score to tie for 41st place in the state tournament at par-72 Twin Hills Golf & Country Club. After shooting 86 in the opening round Monday, Wegner fired a 3-over-par 75 Tuesday to finish with a 161 total.
Lee’s Summit North senior Michael Worth finished one stroke ahead of Wegner, tying for 36th place at 160. After shooting 79 Monday, Worth shot an 81 Tuesday, six strokes off the cutoff for claiming all-state honors with a top-15 finish.
Rockhurst captured the team title after finishing second in each of the last two years. The Hawklets totaled 610 to edge last year’s champion, Springfield Glendale (613). It is the Hawklets’ first boys golf state title since 2012.
Joseph Terschluse of Chaminade in St. Louis claimed medalist honors with a second straight 73 for a 146 total. That edged Rockhurst’s Jacob Propeck (75-73-148) and Glendale’s Alex Locke (72-76-148) for top individual honors.
