Blue Springs Post 499 Fike ended the American Legion Wood Bat Invitational on a high note.

Fike pounded out 10 hits in an 11-5 victory over the Omaha (Neb.) Post 1 Vikings Saturday in a consolation crossover game.

Jacob Jackson led the way for Post 499, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Mark Walker and Crichton Hill each added two hits, including a double, and two RBIs.

Fike scored six runs in the first inning but the Vikings cut it to 6-5 in the second. Fike added two runs in the third and three in the fifth to pull away.

Tommy Mortallaro pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief and struck out two to claim the victory.

ELSBERRY (MO.) POST 226 9, INDEPENDENCE POST 21 6: Shoddy defense doomed Independence Post 21 in its American Legion Wood Bat Invitational consolation finale Saturday.

Post 21 jumped to a 6-1 lead after three innings but made six errors in the final three innings to allow Elsberry to rally for the win in the crossover game.

“Can't win many games making six errors,” Post 21 manager Tom Bush said.

Mason Steele and Tanner Blau each doubled and singled to lead Post 21 at the plate. Josh Cruz suffered the loss.
