The Truman softball team saw its shutout streak and its winning streak come to an end Wednesday.

The Patriots had a five-game winning streak – all by shutout – before suffering a 3-2 non-conference loss to Platte County at Adair Park.

Kennedy Rucker was stranded as the tying run on third as the game ended.

“Although the girls took this loss tough, I was really impressed with their grit to the end,” Truman coach Dan Harper said after his team fell to 6-2 overall. “I don't feel like we got beat, nor beat ourselves, we were just unlucky tonight.”

Rucker went 2-for-4 with a two-out RBI triple in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Freshman pitcher Myel White took the loss despite a strong outing in which she struck out 11 and allowed just two earned runs.

“(She) had another great night in the circle,” Harper said of White. “Most of the hits she gave up were dinks and dunks just over the infield.”

LEE’S SUMMIT 10, GRAIN VALLEY 2: Grain Valley couldn’t get much offense generated against Suburban Big Seven power Lee’s Summit in a non-conference home loss Wednesday.

Payton Walter, who had a triple, suffered the loss. Bri Carter, Cara McClain, Abbie Nicas, Elle Nicas and Kayla Townsend each had singles for the Eagles.
