William Chrisman girls tennis coach Jason Grubb gave his team a stern talk after a loss to Oak Park earlier this week.

Apparently it worked as the Bears cruised to an 8-1 win over Grandview Wednesday.

Ally Cook won 8-5 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Katie Schaefer for an 8-3 win in No. 1 doubles to spark the Bears. Schaefer rolled to an 8-0 win in No. 2 singles.

"I really let my varsity squad have it after the match versus Oak Park,” Grubb said. “Our JV squad has only lost two duals and both were close losses. I challenged them with meeting the confidence of the younger, less experienced players on the team who are having unprecedented success on JV. Katie Schaefer, in particular, was impressive.”

Nicole Eppert (8-1), Juliette Anderson (8-2) and Atlanta Petty (8-0) also claimed singles wins.

Izzy Jaynes and Kiara Ashurst won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, while Eppert and Hannah Kimbrough won 8-0 at No. 3.

Chrisman’s junior varsity also won 8-1.
