The Grain Valley volleyball team made it to the semifinals of the Winnetonka Tournament before falling Saturday.
The Eagles went 1-0-2 in pool play to advance to the quarterfinals, in which they defeated Truman 25-20, 25-14 to advance to the semifinals against Raymore-Peculiar.
Ray-Pec won the first game 25-13 before Grain Valley tied it with a 25-22 triumph in the second game. Ray-Pec won it 25-19 in the decisive game.
“We had a great day of play overall,” Grain Valley coach Keri Peterson said. “We had some inconsistencies in the morning but we were able to come out second in our pool. This led us to two great matches in bracket play.”
In pool play, the Eagles split with Eureka (25-22, 21-25), beat North Kansas City (25-21, 25-21) and split with Park Hill (25-27, 25-18) to finish second.
Carly Harris knocked down 44 digs overall, while Asya Harris added 28 and Karly Tharp had 25. Bailey Bunney totaled 52 assists and seven aces and Olivia Coons also served seven aces to help lead the Eagles.
PLEASANT HILL 25-25, OAK GROVE 8-19: Ginny Hayes had five kills and six digs but it wasn’t enough for Oak Grove to get past Pleasant Hill Thursday in an MRVC West matchup.
Emily Heldenbrand added 14 assists, seven digs and two kills and Olivia Johnson led the Oak Grove defense with eight digs.
