Blue Springs girls tennis coach Jody McClain has a reliable top of the lineup.

Now she’s getting strong play from the bottom.

The Wildcats swept doubles and took five of six singles matches to down a traditionally successful St. Joseph Central team 8-1 Thursday in St. Joseph.

McClain was especially impressed with No. 6 player Jenna Pope, who won 10-3 in singles and teamed with Mary Martell for an 8-3 No. 3 doubles win.

“St. Joseph was missing one of their top players, but the girls did well,” McClain said. “I was especially proud of our No. 6. Jenna has made so much improvement this year. She had a rally where she must have hit 20-30 returns. That was a good win.”

No. 1 Caitlyn Sporing and No. 2 Bentley Walters each won 10-1 and combined for an 8-0 No. 1 doubles victory. Allie Brown won 10-5 at No. 3 and Dani Madison won 10-8 at No. 5 and they teamed for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles.

The Blue Springs junior varsity also won 8-1.
